Faculty members play an integral role in internationalizing the undergraduate experience at UCSC. To promote international scholarship, faculty and advisors help support student access to study abroad/away through advising, advocacy and support. UCSC Global Learning believes strongly in the development of global competency and citizenship by assisting students in identifying those international and intercultural domestic experiences that fit into their degree and career planning as well as support the internationalization efforts and community building at UCSC.

UCSC Global Learning depends on faculty to endorse and promote international and intercultural experiences. We welcome your ideas and look forward to working with you to further integrate and expand global learning opportunities for our students.

UCSC Global Seminars

Global Engagement provides administrative and logistical support for UCSC Global Seminar summer programs.  Faculty members design the curriculum and lead a cohort of students on a 6-10 unit summer program abroad or away. These programs typically take place during Summer Session 1 or Summer Session 2. In order to move forward with a Global Seminar, faculty leaders must submit a Global Seminar Proposal a year and a half in advance (based on designated deadlines outlined in the below proposal document).  Proposals must have the support of your department and are reviewed by the Committee on International Education which is comprised of campus faculty members.

International Travel

Traveling abroad and representing UCSC overseas? It is important to register your trip in order to be covered by UC system insurance. Please view our website for recent safety guidance from the U.S. Department of State, and instructions on how to register your trip on the Division of Global Engagement website.

Request a Speaker

Would you like a representative from UCSC Global Learning to speak or attend an event? We can work with any department, college or resource center on campus to coordinate a study abroad/away training for staff and faculty, “Study/Away Abroad 101” for students, a targeted “Study Abroad/Away in Your Major” workshop, or any other topic or general need you may have for a speaker or study abroad representative. Please complete and submit a Request A Speaker Form at least two weeks prior to the event and we will contact you to confirm your request. If your event is in less than two weeks, please contact us directly to determine if we can accommodate your request.
